September 13, 2004 - Canadian Songstress Wins Album of the Year for Dress Rehearsal, as well as Single, Song, and Video Awards Nashville, TN - Arista Nashville artist Carolyn Dawn Johnson didn’t need any reminders that life is not a dress rehearsal last evening as she swept the Canadian Country Music Awards, taking home four trophies as the night’s top winner. The Alberta native had plenty of hometown pride as she took the podium four separate times during the two-hour show to accept awards for Single of the Year, SOCAN Song of the Year, CMT/Canada Video of the Year, and Album of the Year (for Dress Rehearsal). On Sunday, Johnson was also among the CCMA 2004 Industry Award winners, sharing Record Producer of the Year honors with co-producer Dann Huff. "Simple Life," the hit single celebrating the merits of taking life slow and stopping to smell the roses along the way, was honored with awards for both the CCMA Single of the Year and the CMT Canada Video of the Year. Her beautiful ballad, "Die of a Broken Heart," which Carolyn performed during the program, took honors as Song of the Year. The show aired live in the U.S. on CMT - Country Music Television. The talented singer/songwriter continues to play tour dates around the country, impressing critics such as Mark Bialczak of the Post Standard/Herald Journal in New York, who recently commented after Carolyn’s performance, "Johnson appears ready to join the parade of big-time female country singers. The native of Western Canada made the crowd happy with her sterling voice…Johnson’s growing resume of hits sounded superb." |
