DIE OF A BROKEN HEART

Believe it or not, that’s another “second song of the day,” like “We Talked.” Shaye and I wrote this other song and went to lunch in the middle of it. Somehow we got to talking about breakups and stuff, and I said, “You know, isn’t it interesting when people say, ‘He broke my heart?’ It’s like it really feels like your heart was broken - like someone’s squeezing your heart, it hurts that bad.” I said, “Can you imagine dying of a broken heart?” You know, they say Jesus died of a broken heart on the cross. We kind of talked about that, too. Shaye says I came up with the idea for the song, but I feel like we just came up with it together. I started singing this melody, “Take me fast or take me slow,” and she added, “I don’t really care how I go/In the daylight or in the dark….” It was so easy, however it came about. We just kind of wrote it for ourselves - no over-thinking or trying to hit some kind of mark - we just wanted to write this cool idea.
