Troy Verges, who co-wrote “Simple Life,” has been a great friend and co-writer since ’96, so he really knows who I am. He gave the song to me, and it made so much sense. I told him, “I love this song: this is something I’ll still believe in 20 years. It would be great for my record.” He wrote it with some other friends - Hillary and Amy and Chris - and I was so thankful they gave it to me before anyone else. I think everybody has to find their own simple life. Your simple life might be on your back porch in the middle of the city. It’s okay. You just need to figure out a way to simplify things so that you enjoy the moment.
