May 23, 2005Alberta’s Centennial Birthday
Well, we woke up today to go over to the Commonwealth Stadium in
Edmonton and sing at Alberta’s Birthday and it was pouring rain.
It was an incredibly gloomy day and quite cold actually. It’s
Victoria Day today in Canada, so it’s a holiday weekend. Kids
don’t have school today or anything and most businesses are
closed. So we got down to the Commonwealth at about 12:30 and
was hanging out downstairs in the racquetball court room which
they made into a dressing room. It was freezing down there.
About half an hour later a lady came down and said, “here’s the
deal, the show is cancelled”. And we were like ,”What, oh no!!
The queens supposed to be coming and everything.” She said that
they were still going to have a few of the acts play and the
queen was still going to come, but the show would only be about
20 minutes and 80% of the acts were gonna be cut. I asked if I
could sing one song acoustically so that the fans who may have
come out to see me wouldn’t be disappointed and she said, “it’s
really all about the queen”. So my tour manager went to see what
was up and it ended up they could only do the acts that were
scheduled at the front of the show for the queen’s arrival, so
that everything was followed according to plan with all the
politics and stuff, all of the documented stuff could not be
deviated from, something about protocol with the queen. |
